| Synopsis | Green Lines examines the turbulent past and present of Cyprus through the experience of the Turkish-Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot immigrant community in the Green Lanes area of Haringay, North London. The film focuses on how the émigrés have managed to live side by side peacefully for more than half a century, in spite of extreme tensions and violence in their homeland. It looks at their lives and how people treat such problems in a neutral environment. The film pitches individual memory opposite historical memory, and the contradictions of everyday reality against the black-or-white narrative of “national” history. Green Lines shows that many Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots live together in Haringay not because they have to, but because they choose to.
